We've seen computer animation animate both actual speed and slow-motion (Madagascar being the film I'm referencing). According to that film's commentary, the animation originated as slow-motion instead of as actual speed to be slowed down later. There's one thing they have yet to try: time-lapse. With time-lapse, instead of slowing down the action (to see, for example, all the movements and contortions a water droplet goes through when it hits a surface before it finally settles, all in less time than an eye can blink), it speeds up the action (to see, for example, a multi-month long process happen in minutes). The example I'll use is a film of the construction of an Airbus A-340 (a kind of airplane). You'll see what I mean.
